Today ened with the baby turkey county at 14 total. Only one egg didnt hatch from the batch that was due to hatch today. Perhaps it will break open overnight?
All but 2 were perfectly healthy except for 2. One had minor feet issues and one had major feet issues. By nightfall though, both seemed better. Only time will tell if they will keep getting better or not.
For now all 14 are resting comfortably in their new home.

UPDATE: I am happy to report that so far all turkeys are healthy and happy. To date we have not lost any! Even the little guys with bad feet seem to be recovering. One seems fine, running around as normal. The other more severe case is walking witha limp now, the leg is much straighter than yesterday. Perhaps he will make it with no more than a limp. Time will tell. Overall thes Narangansette turkeys seem to be healthy and strong, better than any other breeds we have tried to date.
ReplyDeleteSad news. the turkey with the malformed leg didnt make it. The other one seems fine though, so in this first hatching we had 14 out of 15 eggs hatch, and only 1 fatality so far.
